The Manitoba Field Unit of Parks Canada is looking for energetic and enthusiastic students to support our summer 2025 operations.  Join our team and help us conserve and protect treasured places across Canada.  With a vast network of national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas, you'll get to work in some of the most beautiful and culturally significant places in the country.

Opportunities are available in:

  • Public Outreach and education, where you will connect with the public, sharing what makes Parks Canada administered places special.  From polar bears and red foxes in Wapusk National Park, to the history of Treaty No. 1 at Lower Fort Garry and how the Red River Métis shaped Manitoba, join an engaging and adventurous outreach team!
  • Communications and design, which will give you the opportunity to exercise your creativity with an expert team of communicators.  Create web and social media content, developing ads, posters, and other print materials to help our team engage with visitors.  Do you have specific talents in areas of graphic design, motion graphics, videography or photography?  There are always opportunities to flex your talents and grow your skillset!

These jobs are on-location at Parks Canada sites and may require you to work from various locations.  Additional positions may become available.

Some positions may require a class 5I or 5F driver's license. Please specify if you have a driver's license in your application. 

 

Public Outreach and Education Student (Winnipeg, MB)

Tenure

Jobs available from May 12 2025 to August 29 2025. Full time 37.5 hours a week. This position has a variable schedule and may work evenings and weekends as needed. We typically hire three students yearly for these positions.

Language

Bilingual candidates who speak English and French are preferred. Specify in your application if you speak additional languages, including Indigenous languages.

What the job does

The Outreach team connects people with Wapusk National Park and national historic sites in Manitoba through in-person and virtual activities. Outreach students:

Represent Parks Canada at public events, sharing stories about the cultural and natural history of Canada;

Help organize and implement activities at high traffic locations like Assiniboine Park Zoo, Manitoba Museum or at festivals;

Support the development of engaging outreach programming.

 

 Design and Communications Student (Winnipeg, MB)

Tenure

Jobs available from May 12 2025 to August 29 2025. Full time Monday to Friday 37.5 hours a week. One position is available. 

Language

A working ability in English is required.

What the job does

Ideate and design new illustrative materials that bolster new and existing promotional and virtual programming;

Assist in the creation of non-personal media, advertisements, and ad-hoc design requests;

Assist with on-site photography at Parks Canada events and programs, and photo cataloguing, selection and preparation for the Parks Canada website, image bank and various apps;

Develop and adapt materials for programs and events for use in public-facing spaces and platforms, including the Parks Canada's website and social media channels @parkscanadamb / @parcscanadamb on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).

Operational Requirements and Conditions of Employment

 Some positions may have the following operational requirements:

  •        Work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays;
  •        Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements;
  •        Be available to work at various locations across Manitoba South, including The Forks National Historic Site, Riel House National Historic Site and Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site;
  •        Work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
  •        Child Abuse Registry Check will be required for Outreach positions;   
  • Stand/walk for prolonged periods while delivering tours, or interpretive programming.
