The Rouge National Urban Park is looking for dedicated and thoughtful candidates with excellent organizational, administrative, and communication skills to support visitor services for the coming season.


We are looking for a motivated, organized, and compassionate leader with strong communication and interpersonal skills who champions service excellence in a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace.


You will lead a dynamic front-line team across multiple park locations, coordinating visitor services and daily operations to ensure safe, engaging experiences. Help visitors discover and enjoy Canada’s natural wonders - from forests and creeks to farms, trails, marshlands, and a beach along the shore of Lake Ontario.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

Oversee and deliver visitor services operations in a fast-paced environment
• Train, schedule, and supervise staff
• Oversee trails, entry gates, and day use areas
• Providing customer service and service recovery
• Maintain visitor modeling data collection, analysis, and reporting
• Manage revenue, sales, and point of sale systems

Coordinate with other teams on service delivery, public safety, prevention and facility maintenance
• Implement prevention and compliance strategies
• Support tracking incident data
• Support implementation of programming and interpretation
• Resolve operational challenges and needs, including waste management, closures, etc.
• Provide recommendations for service improvements

Perform administrative duties
• Participate in staff recruitment and training
• Evaluate staff performance, providing feedback and support
• General staff administration, including tracking and processing leave forms, timesheets, and staffing appointments

 

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and preservation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

A rich assembly of natural, cultural and agricultural landscapes, Rouge National Urban Park is home to amazing biodiversity, some of the last remaining working farms in the Greater Toronto Area, Carolinian ecosystems, amazing hiking opportunities, and human history dating back over 10,000 years, including some of Canada's oldest known Indigenous sites.

Rouge National Urban Park is one of the largest and best protected urban parks of its kind in the world, spanning 79.1 square kilometers in the heart of Canada's largest and most diverse metropolitan area, overlapping the cities of Toronto, Markham and Pickering and the townships of Uxbridge and Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Education

· A post-secondary degree or an acceptable combination of education, training, experience or traditional knowledge relevant to the position Learn more about degree equivalency.

Experience

· Experience in planning and/or interacting with the public in a reception/orientation capacity

· Experience addressing public complaints and issues, finding customer focused solutions, and/or coordinating with appropriate staff for resolution

· Experience in providing leadership, either when supervising employees or through other means (i.e. mentoring, coaching). Experience should include training individuals, assigning tasks, monitoring work progress, and providing feedback

· Experience operating automated cash and related computerized applications used to provide cashier services, prepare sales reports, compile statistics and/or register reservations

· Experience in the management of financial resources and preparing, coordinating and managing project plans and budgets

Knowledge

· Knowledge of Parks Canada’s vision, mandate and/or corporate objectives, that relate to visitor experience in national parks, historic sites or marine conservation areas

· Knowledge of scheduling, performance evaluation, recruitment and training processes

· Knowledge of basic research methods and techniques

Abilities

· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of colleagues within the organization and with external stakeholders

· Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team

· Ability to manage resources (time, financial, human, physical and information) to achieve planned goals

· Ability to identify problems and the solutions to them

You must be willing to:

· Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance

· Possess and maintain a valid Class G driver’s licence

· Wear a Parks Canada uniform and/or PPE and abide the uniform policy

· Work irregular hours, overtime, shift, weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required

· Travel, including overnight, off site and/or weekends

· Obtain and maintain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification

· Work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations, and by various means of transportation

Please be advised that there is no staff housing available at this time. This job is 100% in office at sites around the Rouge National Urban Park.
